Plastic Free July 2025🌿

Plastic Free July is back, challenging individuals and businesses around the world to refuse single-use plastics and make more sustainable choices. This global movement has grown rapidly since 2011, with over 100 million people having made small, everyday changes that protect our oceans, wildlife, and communities.🌍

In the Luxury Hospitality Industry, sustainability isn’t just a trend; it’s a responsibility. From boutique hotels to Michelin-starred kitchens, every effort counts in preserving the beauty and integrity of the environments our clients work so hard to create.🌟

💡 Here are a few fresh ideas to reduce plastic waste this July (and beyond!):

♻️ Refill your own cleaning products at zero-waste stores

🌱 Choose compostable bin liners instead of plastic ones

🥤 Switch to reusable silicone food covers instead of cling film

🧽 Try plastic-free sponges or cleaning cloths made from natural fibres

🍽️ Encourage chefs to buy from local suppliers who use minimal packaging

🚿 Swap bottled shower products for solid shampoo and conditioner bars

Small swaps = big impact!✨

Let’s keep luxury sustainable. Will you be making any changes this month?💭

Profiles of Prestige with Tom Aikens✨

Born in 1970 in Norfolk, Tom Aikens discovered his love of food early, inspired by his parents’ passion for fresh produce and time spent cooking and gardening. This shaped his respect for seasonal ingredients and laid the groundwork for his culinary career.🌱

Tom trained at Norwich City College Hotel School before beginning his professional journey at Cavalier’s in Battersea, The Capital Hotel with Philip Britten, and then under Pierre Koffmann at La Tante Claire.🍽️⭐️

He went on to work with Richard Neat at Pied à Terre before heading to Paris in 1994 to train under Joël Robuchon and at Les Crayères in Reims.🇫🇷

Returning to London, Tom became Head Chef at Pied à Terre. In 1996, aged just 26, he earned two Michelin stars, becoming the youngest British chef to do so at the time.🌟🌟

In 2000, Tom took a break from the kitchen to work with Lady Bamford on launching Daylesford Organic, developing a range of farm-fresh products. This experience deepened his appreciation for quality ingredients and inspired his future restaurant concepts.🏡🐑

In 2003, Tom opened his first solo venture, Tom Aikens Restaurant in Chelsea. It earned a Michelin star in 2004 and two by 2008, along with five AA Rosettes. In 2006, he launched Tom’s Kitchen in Chelsea, a more casual concept that expanded across London, Birmingham, and Istanbul.🌎

After closing Tom Aikens Restaurant in 2014, Tom returned to fine dining with Muse in Belgravia, which opened in 2020. The deeply personal tasting menu concept earned a Michelin star and four AA Rosettes within its first year. In 2023, the restaurant was awarded five AA Rosettes.🌟🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️

Tom has earned accolades including Catey Newcomer of the Year and AA Chefs’ Chef of the Year. He has appeared on shows such as Great British Menu and Iron Chef UK, and authored three cookbooks.🏆📚

Blending classical French technique with British seasonality, Tom Aikens continues to shape the fine dining landscape with creativity and precision.🤩
